Which advertising job would suit?

I am a second year politics and sociology student but i have always been interested in working in advertising for a long time. I have always had an interest in imagery in adverts and the work that goes behind the scenes. But i would like to know what job you would advise i look into possibly trying to get in the future with my non-marketing or design based degree. An advertising copywriter role sounds brilliant but i think my lack of design experience may get in the way of developing a portfolio. I need some advice. Please help

Copywriters aren’t artists. I have my degree in advertising and took courses in copywriting. We are just the person who thinks up the commercial, billboard, radio ad, website, etc. We think up everything from close ups to long shots to sound effects and type of actors. We put it on paper which is what the director or artists work off of. So a portfolio with images isn’t as necessary as a portfolio with all your work you’ve TYPED out.

Advertising is a very broad degree and has many options to choose from as far as career paths. Many times advertisers prefer someone with a psychology or sociology degree to fully understand the demographic the client is trying to advertise to. So your sociology degree will help you if advertising continues to be an interest.
