How can I become a Copywriter,or what to do for join advertisment industry.?

The advertising industry is extremely difficult to break into. The pay is poor, work hours are terrible and you're under pressure to come up with creative ideas every minute.

There are three basic areas where you can get into advertising:

1. Creative: You'd be a copywriter, a visualizer, a proof reader etc.
2. Planning: Media buyer, strategic planning, media planning
3. Administrative and accounts service: Client service, backoffice staff

Working in creative requires you to have talent. Either you have it or you don't. Training helps though. You may want to get a university degree in mass communication.

Before you start all this, I suggest you read this book called "Pick Me". Decide for yourself if you really want to go through all this trouble to get into this industry.

The talent thing is a myth,

If you want to learn copy writing the correct way (The way that actually brings in money for your clients) Study old style copy.

It hasn't changed much and the Internet is riddled with courses etc…

I would recommend the book: "Tested Advertising Methods, By John Capels" That will give you a introductory primer.

Copywriting is a skill that anyone can do. The advertising industry as it stands today is obsolete and their methods are no longer the most efficient way for businesses to get their marketing messages across to their customers.
All too often I see pretty looking ads, bullet points and a large phone number.
Well all that does is make your potential customer ring around getting quotes and going for the cheapest price. Why? Because businesses educated their clients to do so by listening to people in the advertising industry and advertising the way they say, I mean everyone is doing the same so why rock the boat? This is a big big mistake and a major reason why most small businesses fail.
Whatever advertising budgets they have is just wasted trying to form an image like coca cola. This is what the advertising agencies tell you to do.
The first problem I have with that is that the people advising these businesses are only employees. And employees haven't got a clue about anything when it comes to small business.
Probably one of the best copywriters in Australia is Brett McFall.
Why? When you advertise you want the ads to work don't you? I mean you want customers banging down your door to buy from you?
Well Brett is also very good at teaching people this art and has a Home Study Course called Ad Camp.
You should seek it out.
A shameless plug: I was very fortunate to be in the audience when he created this Home Study Course.
Yes I am self employed and have been for 12 years and let me assure you, joining an advertising agency is not the way to go if you want to earn a decent income.
All the ads designed for me in the past were pretty useless. I may as well as put the money on a bonfire – same result!!
So don't give up on your dream, learn what real copywriting is because I can teach you too! You'll learn more at the website.
